Our Pastor
Reverend Dr. Greta Fowler
The Reverend Doctor Greta Davette Fowler of Kennesaw, GA. is honored to serve as the proud and 1st female pastor of St. John African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Fairburn, GA. A native of Birmingham, AL and a former Elementary School teacher, Dr. Fowler served as the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Enrollment Management and Dean of Students at Turner Theological Seminary. Additionally, she was recently an Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Turner Theological Seminary and an Adjunct Professor of Preaching at the Candler School of Theology through Emory University and the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University. Pastor Fowler served as the Sixth Episcopal District’s Chairperson of Church Growth and Evangelism, 1st Vice President for the Sixth Episcopal District’s Women in Ministry and serves as the Chair of Admissions for the Atlanta North Georgia Annual Conference Board of Examiners and as the Chairperson for Christian Education for the South Atlanta District of the Atlanta North Georgia Annual Conference of the AME Church. Dr. Fowler formerly co-hosted the Righteous, Ratchet, and Real Podcast, which is still available wherever you get your podcasts.
Rev. Fowler holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Biology from Alabama A&M University (1996 and 1998) and a teaching certificate in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky (2002). She also earned the Master of Divinity degree with honors from McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University (2014) and completed her Doctor of Ministry degree in African Centered Religious Thought and Ministry at the McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. (2019). Additionally, Pastor Fowler served on the McAfee School of Theology Board of Visitors (2016-2022) as well as the Alumni Board. Dr. Fowler previously pastored New Zion Hill AME Church in Thomson, GA (2017-2019) and Gray’s Chapel AME Church in Adairsville, GA (2019-2023). She also served on the Augusta Georgia Annual Conference Board of Examiners, was the Chairperson of the Augusta North District’s Finance Committee, and Church School Superintendent of the Atlanta North Georgia Annual Conference (2020-2023). Dr. Fowler is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Dr. Fowler loves presenting numerous workshops across the Connectional Church and the state of Georgia, but she also enjoys writing and has written several published devotionals for Reflections Daily Devotional Guide through Smyth & Helwys Publishing. Reverend Fowler is married to her college sweetheart, Bradford and this December they will celebrate 29 years of marriage. She and Brad have one son, Theodore, who is a Philosophy major at Morehouse College. As a family, they love to travel and to watch movies in their spare time. Her favorite scripture is 2 Corinthians 4: 7, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
