Meet Our Leaders
Charles R. Ramsey, Jr. M.DIV.
The Reverend Charles Robert Ramsey, Jr. is the Senior Pastor of Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) in Fairburn, Georgia. In the past two years, since arriving as the new pastor Ramsey and the people of God went to work under their theme “A Place of Divine Possibilities.” This was manifested by a 20% increase in membership, a dramatic increase in tithes and offerings, on-going leadership development while celebrating the spirit of unity with special family activities that has also included extraordinary outreach to the community.
As the longest serving pastor of Saint Luke AME Church, Cartersville, Georgia, Pastor Ramsey executed a debt-free three-part renovation project that included the sanctuary, fellowship hall and restrooms that lifted the pride and functionality of the facility. A comprehensive media system was installed that included TV monitors and computers along with live and recorded social media, online giving and a user-friendly website. Committed, and Holy Spirit led to lift the vision of Saint Luke, Pastor Ramsey and the members declared they were A Church Reaching for All that God has for Us! Many outreach programs and ministries increased the number of visitors, friends and new persons in Christ who joined the Saint Luke family.
His first pastoral appointment was at Saint Luke, Athens, Georgia at a critical time as a long-standing beacon in the community. The church quickly improved through spirit-led worship and increased community presence. Property improvements were also made, and financial stability was re-established.
Rev. Ramsey previously served as the Executive Pastor of Trinity A.M.E. Church in Atlanta, GA under the pastoral leadership of the Reverend Dr. Jeffery B. Cooper, General Secretary of the connectional church. With over fifteen years on staff, Rev. Ramsey brought evangelistic innovation to ministry by initiating “Praise in the Park,” record-breaking revival attendance, and leadership to the ministerial staff. As an administrator, he was responsible for the operations of the church’s 50,000 square foot facilities and campus. He also held the position of Assistant Director of Trinity’s Early Learning Center with a 22 member staff and provided financial management for the 150-student enrollment.
His commitment to Christ is rooted from childhood activities and bible lessons taught at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Trenton, New Jersey where at the age of 12 he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Rev. Ramsey accepted his calling to preach while matriculating at Morris Brown College in Atlanta Georgia. He served as Assistant to the College Chaplain and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1999. He was ordained an Itinerant Elder, per the Discipline of the Church and received a Master of Divinity degree with honors in 2008 from Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA.
He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the NAACP and the South Fulton Ministerial Alliance, an interdenominational fellowship. Rev.
